Lee Alexander McQueen, (March 16, 1969 – February 11, 2010) was a British fashion designer known for his unconventional designs and shock tactics. McQueen worked as the head designer at Givenchy for five years before founding the Alexander McQueen and McQ labels. McQueen’s dramatic designs, worn by many fashion-forward celebrities including Rihanna, Björk and Lady Gaga, were often met with critical acclaim and earned him the British Designer of the Year award four times.
McQueen died days before London Fashion Week, though he was not scheduled to show, and nine days after the death of his mother. British tabloid The Sun has reported that McQueen was found hanged, but this has not been confirmed. The police have stated that the death was not suspicious, but have not confirmed that the death was a suicide. [via.]
